Celebrating Peer Support during National Recovery Month

One of the things we believe deeply at F5 Project is that lived experience matters.

Many of our peer support specialists know what it’s like to have to start over. They’ve experienced addiction, incarceration, broken relationships, and the uncertainty that comes with trying to build a different life.

That experience doesn’t make the work easy, but it does create connection.

There’s something powerful about sitting across from someone who is struggling and being able to say, “I’ve been there, too.” Not because your stories are exactly the same, but because you understand what it feels like to wonder whether things can actually get better.

And then you get to be living proof that they can.

Our peers use their experiences every day to help people navigate barriers, celebrate wins, work through hard days, and keep moving forward. They show up without judgment and with the kind of accountability that comes from genuinely wanting someone to succeed.

During Recovery Month, we’re especially grateful for the people who have taken some of the hardest parts of their own lives and decided to use them to help someone else.

That’s peer support. And we’re pretty proud of the people doing it.
